Automotive Technology

About the Program

The Automotive Technology program offers a comprehensive Associate of Applied Sciences Degree in Automotive Technology or a Certificate in Automotive Technology. Students will study the eight defined areas of vehicle repair including: Engine Repair, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Manual Drive Train and Axles, Suspension and Steering, Braking Systems, Electrical Electronic Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance.

These programs will provide students with a solid foundation and will develop the necessary mechanical and diagnostic skills needed to enter the automotive industry. Students may opt to pursue further undergraduate study and continue their education through our transfer options.

The program also features seven Mini Certificate options that document progress throughout the program. Mini Certificates may also be used to document completion of courses by students who specialize in one or more specific areas of automotive repair. Mini certificates are listed in the following link.

Transfer Option

Credits from CLC's Automotive Program transfer toward a bachelor's degree under two agreements with these institutions:

  • Southern Illinois University
  • Ferris State (Michigan)

Career Opportunities

Employment of automotive service technicians and mechanics is projected to grow 9 percent from 2012 to 2022, about the average growth rate for all occupations. Typical job titles include mechanic, service technician, repair service estimator and shop supervisor.
