Meet the Professors

Javier Alonso

Teaching full time at CLC since:2014; previously taught as a CLC adjunct, in which he taught both psychology and criminal justice. Professor Alonso also taught psychology at Oakton Community College for six years; served as a police officer for 27 years with the Morton Grove Police Department. Between 1999-2000, Professor Alonso was an international police training coordinator in Kosovo, training new police recruits in a United Nations program.

Subject taught at CLC:Introductory criminal justice, criminology, juvenile delinquency, psychology of the criminal mind.

Education:B.S. and M.A., Northeastern Illinois University.

What inspires me about teaching:Meeting and getting to know my students and the opportunity to gain as much knowledge from them as I hope I was able to instill in them.

Teaching full time at CLC since:2015; previously taught criminal justice full time at Kaplan University; served as an adjunct faculty member at Lewis University’s graduate public safety program since 2010, teaching civil liability for police officers.

What inspires me about teaching:I am inspired by the commitment of our students to improve their lives and the lives of their families. I learn so much from my students, and sharing my legal experience and knowledge to inspire others to achieve their goals is the most gratifying feeling in the world.

Teaching full time at CLC since:2011; previously taught criminal justice as an adjunct at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. Professor Utecht served as a Wisconsin police officer for eight years, spending the majority of that time with the City of Sturgeon Bay Police Department in Door County.

What inspires me about teaching:Teaching allows me to have a profound and lasting positive effect upon the professions in the criminal justice system, especially law enforcement. I enjoyed being a police officer very much, and I strive to pass on my love for the profession through my teaching.
