Julia Lachkova

As an international student, I like the higher education system of the U.S.It’s a more informal environment, and the professors are like your friends. In an introductory psychology course, the professor was interactive, using a combination of surveys, videos, films and class discussions. We applied the psychological terms, such as the subconscious, to everyday life.

I like the diverse mix of students at CLC.遇到不同的国籍和背景可以让你看到世界有多大,每个学生都有自己独特的人生观。

One course that I really enjoyed was an English Composition II course, in which my section studied critical theories of Marxism and feminism.老师用当代电影和动画片中的例子来说明上个世纪的思想是如何与现代文化相联系的。在CLC,班级规模较小,你可以从教授那里找到更多一对一的指导,尤其是在他们的办公时间。

Outside of class, CLC’s Writing Center at the Grayslake Campus is a great service for students. The friendly tutors help you with grammar and organizing your thoughts. The math tutors are also helpful. If you’re struggling in your classes, there’s always support—and it’s free.

Besides academic offerings,CLC’s gym, fitness center and tennis courts are all good ways to develop a healthy lifestyle. On the Grayslake Campus, the Japanese garden and library atrium offer nice places to relax.

In addition to taking classes, I’m building my resume by working as an intern in the college’s Small Business Development Center.Ihelp with marketing research and helping businesses find international markets for products ranging from jewelry to toys.I also work for CLC’s Center for International Education as a student ambassador. My job involves promoting the college to prospective students in other countries, organizing events and conducting campus tours and helping international students complete forms and find housing.

I really like CLC’s guaranteed transfer admission program that it has with 19 other colleges and universities.Theprogram offers special incentives and guaranteed admission, which means that you have a seamless transfer of credit to DePaul or 18 other four-year colleges and universities in the program.

After graduating from DePaul, I would like to begin a finance career in the U.S.and eventually start my own business in the hotel or travel industry.
